110121 Miura Alps (三浦アルプス)

Date: Jan. 21 (Fri) 2011, Fine, occasionally cloudy

Place: Miura Alps (Kanagawa prefecture)

Course: Zushi, Kazamibashi Bus Stop – Sengenyama – Hayama Alps – Nyutosan (211 m) – Taura (Ume Villege) – JR Taura Station (About 10 km, 5 hours)

Partner: Mr, Matsumoto

I saw Mr. Matsumoto at Zushi station. We took a bus from #1 Bus Stop. Got off at Kazamibashi.

[Kazamibashi Bus Stop,

The entrance of the trail was at left side of the pedestrian road toward Higashizushi. We climbed the hill from where we had good command of Zushi seashores.

[We could see Enoshima Island,

The hill must be Mt. Sengen. There was a stone monument besides a big cherry tree. We continued walking on ridge of Hayama Alps.

The trail consisted of steep up and down ridges. It was much tough comparing with Kamakura hiking course.

[There were steep up and down trails,

Near the ridge from which we could see Hayama Imperial Villa, we met a group of kindergarten kids led by a couple of teachers. A boy greeted me by saying “My name is Ai-chan.” So I replied, “My name is George.” They wee cute.

We could see Hayama Junior Highschool and Hayama International Villege from the ridge. Then we saw a group of “middle age” men, having lunch with ramen being cooked by gas burner. Some of them were smoking tabaco, so we hurried our way.

We were also finding the place for lunch. We decided to have lunch under the power tower where we had nice sunshine. (Kikko prepared riceballs and fried eggs for us.)

[We had lunch under the power tower,

We went crossover above Yokohama-Yokosuka High Way, after clibming Nyutosan (211 m). From the observatory, we could see Tokyo Bay, city of Yokohama, and even a part of Chiba peninsula.

I could see Tokyo Bay Aqua-line clearly as well as Umihotaru parking area. I could spot Yokohama Landmark Tower easily, but could not see Tokyo Sky Tree clearly.

They were all left side. I could also identify the American airclaft carrier at Yokosuka American Nevy Base, well as Japanese ships at Japanese Self-defence Force Base on right side.

The final destination of the hiking was “Ume Villege” in Taura.

["Ume" blossoms were blooming at "Ume Villege"

I visited one of my aunts who used to live here, with my father more than half a centry ago. So the memories of my father, my aunt, and my old days came back to me when I visited Taura.

JR Taura Station seemed not changed much. I saw same squarral eating flowers of camellia sasanqua at Taura station.

It was my 6th hike in Japan this year, and the 4th with Mr. Matsumoto.

[The sign of Miura Alps,
