Date: Jan. 5 (Wed) 2011, Fine
Place: Shirakaba Kogen International Skiing Resort, Chino City, Nagano Prefecture
Partners: Prof. M and his boy K (11), Mr. S, Director of International Kindergarten
Prof. M invited me to go skiing with him on Jan. 4 and 5. So upon returning to my home in Kamakura, I joined him to go to Nagano Prefecture.
Prof. M lives in Shizuoka, but his parents live in Yokohama. He picked me up in Kamakura and we headed for Lake Kawaguchi where his friend, Mr. S lived by his Volvo.
We changed car from Volvo to BMW which Mr. S drove. We went to a resort hotel named “Exsive Tateshina.”
“Exsive” is a membership hotel. Therefore, Mr. S reserved a suite for us. I liked its open-air spa very much. I took the bath at night and in the morning. I found steam from the spa all frozen in the branches of trees around the spa in the morning. They were just beautiful.
[Exsive Tateshiwa was an luxurious hotel,
On our way, we stopped at “The Waterfall of Virgin” and took pictures there. The waterfall was half frozen.

Next day, we went to Shirakaba International Skiing Resort where all snow boards were prohibited.
Prof. M prepared all necessary skiing gears for me, so all I had to do was just to buy a half day ticket for ropeway service.
The half-day ticket costs 2600 yen, while All-day ticket for senior people (over 60, and I am qualified!) was 3000 yen.
[Half-a-day ticket costs 2600 yen, and all-day ticket for senior people costs 3000 yen,
The skiing resort is wide open and gentle slope. It was just right for Mr. M’s son, K who was still a beginner. Prof. M was very kind and patient. He was coaching his son very kindly.
[The skiing slope was gentle,
Mr. S seemed a good skier. He skied swiftly. Since it was long time since I skied last time, so I began skiing slowly, then a little by little, faster.
[Mr. S seemed a good skier, S先生は上級スキーヤーのようだった。
The altitude of the top hill was 1830 m, therefore the quality of snow was very good. I could also enjoy nice views from gondola and the hill.
[The view from the top hill,
It was also the entrance of the trail to Mt. Tateshina (2530m) of Yatsugatake. We could also see the frozen Lake Shirakaba down there.

I felt like skiing more when Prof. M decleared to stop skiing at noon. Yet, I could enjoy skiing very much. I thanked Prof. M very much for this opportunity.

[Half a day ticket was 2600 yen and All day ticket for senior people was 3000 yen,
[Prof. M lent me all necessary skiing gear,M教授はスキー用具をすべて貸してくれた、M교수님은 필요한 스키 장비를 모두 빌려 주었다]
[A view from the gondola,

I like hiking very much. I used to go hiking with a Korean hiking club named “AhToSan.” This blog introduces mostly my hiking activities in Korea and Japan, and Sydney in Australia. As of January 2020, I live in Sydney suburb. I go Blue Mountains and bush walk in Sydney area.
