130925 Stammtisch “Hanna’s 3 Year Birthday”

We celebrated Hanna’s 3rd birthday at Hanpit Pizza Maul with Stammtisch friends.

Hanna’s parents invited Jim, Amy and me to the party at 7 pm.

Jim brought stuffed badger and Amy brought kid’s cloth. I gave Hanna a kokeshi-shaped tea container.

Her parents prepared cake with three candles. When we began singing “Happy Birthday to You” the students who were at our next table joined us singing the song, together with the clerks at Hanpit Pizza Maul.

Hanna seemed very happy. She put the stuffed badger into the kokeshi container. Marta put the cloth in front of Hanna’s body.

We talked about how to celebrate children’s birthdays or becoming certain age.

I told about Shi-chi-go-san and my vague memories about the celebration.

When I was 5 years old, I got burn injury on my right leg. My parents carried me to the hospital and I got surgery on my leg.

When they carried me to the hospital by baby buggy, they gave me“Chitoseame,”long stick-shaped candy, that's what I vaguely remember.

BJ told us about Korean custom of Dolchanchi.

When a kid became one year old, they celebrate the occasion with lots of food, and put traditional cloths on the kid.

They often put things symbolizing future occupation, such as pencil (academic carrier), scissors (textile industry), money (financial business, or merchant), etc., then encourage the kid to choose one item to pick up.

I should ask Hanna’s parent if they already did Dolchanchi for Hanna.

The restaurant was “buffet” style. We could order whatever we like among many types of pizza, and soft drinks.

I regretted that already had supper at my studio apartment that evening.

この日のスタムティッシュは、ウクライナのリヴィウ出身のマルタと韓国人のイケメンＢＪの一人娘「ハンナ」の3歳の誕生日をハンピピザマウルで祝った。

マルタとＢＪはハンナのために誕生ケーキを準備し、ジムはアナグマのぬいぐるみを、わたしはコケシのお茶葉入れをハンナにプレゼントした。

ハンナはアナグマのぬいぐるみをコケシの中に入れてご機嫌だった。

後から息子を連れて駆けつけたAmyはかわいい洋服をプレゼントした。

3本のローソクに火をともしてからケーキカットして、『ハッピーバースデートゥユー』を歌うと隣のテーブルの大学生たちも合唱してハンナの誕生日を祝った。

この夜の話題は子供の頃の誕生日祝いの話だったが、私は七五三の祝いの頃、近所でたき火に当たっていてズボンに火が燃え移り、大やけどをしたことと、たぶん乳母車にのせられて病院へ通院する時に千歳飴をもらったような記憶がある。

この夜集まった私以外の大人の国籍は、韓国、ウクライナ及びオーストラリアなので七五三の習慣は知らないので、お宮参りの説明をした。

ちなみに韓国では生後100日の祝いである百日宴(ペギルチャンチ박일잔치)と満1歳の誕生日に初誕生日(トルチャンチ돌잔치)がある。

特に後者は民族衣装を着てごちそうを並べ、記念撮影をすることが多い。

また子供の前にいろいろなもの(ハサミとか文房具とかお金とか職業を象徴するもの)を置き、子供が何を選ぶかで将来を占う風習もあるという。

子供の時の記憶がどのくらいまでさかのぼるのか個人差があるだろうが、私の場合は上記のとおり五歳である。

このレストランはビュッフェ・スタイルで、いろいろな種類のピザが食べ放題。飲み物はソフトドリンクが飲み放題。

私はこの日、夕食を食べてから参加したことを後悔した。
