Destination: Jangtaesan(324m), Seo-gu, Daejeon
Hiking Course: Parking Lot – Sky Tower – Ridge trail – Janction of Three Trails – Heliport – Observation Deck – Gazebo – Parking Lot (About 5 km, 4 hours)
Participants : 10 Taejonhikers from 7 countries: USA, France, Russia, Australia, Germany, Japan and Canada)
Oct. 9 is called “Hangul Day” in Korea. “Hangul” is “Alpherbet” in Korean language. It is considered to be invented by Sejeong the Great during his rule in 15th century.

So, I proposed George Furst to go to Jangtaesan in Seo-gu, Daejeon as a Taejonhikers’ hike.

Unfortunately, Hanna, 3-year-old girl of BJ and Marta got sick, so they could not join us.
Participants for the hike were 10; George Furst, Tina, Pabro, Connie, Jim, Rubby, Elena, Michael and a new comer, Cheonho Bae.

We met at KAIST Main Gate Parking Lot at 10 am. We arrived at Jangtaesan Parking Lot at about 11 am.

We could enjoy nice views from the facility, and I took another group picture there.

After walking about one hour, George Furst suggested to have lunch at the junction of three trails.

After having lunch break for about 30 minutes, we resumed the ridge walking.
Some Korean hikers were picking acorns along the trail They may cook acorns and make “Dotori-muk” or “Acorn jello.”
We came to Heliport where “Pengnihyang” and I came on April 6, then we headed for the observation deck just under the gazebo on the top of Jangtaesan.
We could see Yongtaeeul Reservoir (용태을저수지) from the deck very well.

There was another observation deck behind the gazebo.

So, Dr. Nakai, a Japanese botanist of Meiji Era, found this flower.
Beside this plant, we saw some interesting things along the trail, such as a statute like "Jizo" with kids.
However, George Furst and Tina and Paburo seemed to go to another trail from the rest of hikers.
We had a little trouble, and took some extra time to have re-union.

We came back to KAIST at 3:46 pm.

この日は韓国・朝鮮語の表記文字である「ハングル」が世宗によって1446年に公布されたことを記念する「ハングルの日」で、今年から休日になった公休日であった。

そこで、テジョンハイカーズは軽いハイキングを計画した。私は今年の4月6日、アトサンの百里香(ペンニヒャン)と来た大田市西区の長泰山を提案した。

BJとマルタのためにと考えた長泰山ハイキングだったが、ハンナの具合が悪く残念ながら彼らは不参加。

カーナビに従って、大田市内を走り、西区でも西大田の方の長泰山休養林駐車場には11時少し前に到着した。

スカイタワーの高さは約20mほどだろうか。平地から緩やかなスロープの「スカイウォーク」をゆっくり歩いて「スカイタワー」に向かい、らせん状のスロープを上がり、一番上の展望台で小休止した。

私は五穀クッキーを、コニーは豆腐菓子を、エレナは小さく切ったリンゴを提供して分け合った。

スカイウォークから尾根伝いの登山路を伝って展望台までの約2キロ弱の道を歩いたが、休み休みなので時間がかかる。

ベンチは2つあり、私を除く全員が座ることができた。
私は朝作ったトーストサンドを２つ食べた。ジョンホだけは弁当の用意がないようで、マイケルが自分の持参した変わった食べ物を分け合った。
みんなの食べ物をみると、ティナがキンパプのほかはみなサンドイッチのようだった。
約30分ほど休憩した後、尾根歩きを再開した。
前回、アトサンの百里香と来たヘリポートに出て、その後、展望台に向かって直進した。
頂上の「壮泰楼」と書かれた東屋の下の展望台からは目の前にトッカルボン(떡갈봉)、眼下にはヨンテウル貯水池(용태을 저수지)が良く見える。

頂上の東屋に着いたのは13：26だった。東屋の後ろの展望台も景観が良い。この東屋の後ろの展望台と東屋の前で最後の集合写真を撮ってから下山開始した。

のんびりと下山を始めると、下山路には変わった仏像があった。ちょっと見た感じでは日本でよく見る地蔵のようでもあった。

ジョージから電話があったが、彼らの位置がよくわからない。元気なチョンホが引き返して捜したが、彼らは見つからない。
結局別々に下山して出口で会おうと言うことにしたが、不安が募った。
スカイウォークと下山口の出会う場所でチョンホとマイケルと私の3人でしばらく待ったが、ジョージが電話に出ない。
さらに出口に近い座る場所がある所で待とうと歩き始めたら、ジョージやティナがゆっくりと下りてきた。
この時点で14:34だった。さらに駐車場まで下ったわけだが、全員車の前に揃ったのは午後3時ごろで、ジムの車にマイケルが乗り、ジョージの車にティナが乗って、KAISTへ向かった。

後で携帯を確認するとマルタからハンナが高熱を出して今日は参加できないというメッセージが入っていた。
今回は私にとっては今年になって51回目のハイキングで、アトサンの登山にに比べるとテジョンハイカーズのハイキングは大変軽いハイキングである。先週の雪嶽山のような大変な登山に比べ、おおいにリラックスできる山歩きと言えよう。
