131025 Seeing KS at Incheon Airport, and Drinking with him at Dongdaemun Market

KS and I graduated from Daigakubu (Intra-NTT College) in March, 1977. Thereafter, he worked at a branch office of NTT in Nagano and climbed many nice mountains there.

I had been working mostly in Tokyo until I retired from a subsidiary of NTT in 2002,

Last winter, I got a cheap long distance JR ticket to travel around Hokuriku and Tokoku area, and I visited his home in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture.

I visited KS in Takaoka on Jan. 18, 2013 after 36 years absence. I happened to find out that he was a mountain lover. So, we climbed Mt. Myoko together last summer.

He became one of my friends who exchanged e-mail most frequently since then.

I found out that KS is an enthusiastic fan of “Winter Sonate” the Korean TV drama which was broadcasted three times in Japan since 2003.

He wanted to visit the areas where the drama had been shot.

At the same time, I volunteered to guide him to a Korean mountain (I recommended Gyeryongsan in Daejeon.)

Anyhow, I went to Incheon Airport to see him on Oct. 25.

The airplane had landed at the airport at 2:00 o’clock and he came out from the exit at 2:30.

Snice he is a heavy smoker, he immediately found the place to smoke (outside of the airport building.)

I checked air port limousine bus to Tondaemun Market. The nearest departure time was 3:15 and the fee was 14,000 won.

It is convenient from Incheon Airport to hotels in Seoul, but a bit expensive.

We could utilize railway transportation and subway in Seoul, but we had to change trains. So we utilized a limousine bus to the hotel.

The pleasant surprise was the location of the hotel: “Uljiro Co-Op Residence”

It was just in front of the bus-stop of Dongdaemun.

One stay costs 100,000 won +α, but it was clean, and big enough for one person. For my pleasure, I could use Internet free.

After checked in, we went out for dinner near the hotel.

There were many restaurants around the hotel, but mostly “non-smoking.”

We found a beef “Bulkogi” restaurant with plastic sheet, so called “Pochangmacha” style.

I asked a waiter if smoking was allowed. He sail OK but when I asked for astray, he said there was no astray. He said, “Just throw the butts around.”

Anyway, KS was happy that he could smoke. We ordered a set of “Beef Bulkogi.” It was 47,000 won.

I thought it was reasonable price, considering the quality and quantity.

We also ordered Korean beer. A bottle of “Casu” beer (500 cc) cost 4000 won which was also reasonable price.

KS liked the taste of Korean beer very much. We drank half a dozen beer, and I also ordered Korean soju. That was also good with “Bulkogi.”

We enjoyed the food and drinks for more than 2 hours, and went back to the hotel at around 8 pm.

大学部同窓生で、今年の夏(7/17)、日本百名山の一つで新潟県妙高市の妙高山(2,454m)にいっしょに登った富山県在住のKS氏が来韓した。

KS氏は韓国訪問は初めてであるが、2003年から3度にわたって日本のTVで放映された(冬のソナタ)の大フアンで、ぜひロケ地を廻りたいという希望がある。

そのついでに大田の名山、鶏龍山にも登りたいというので、富山空港から仁川空港へ来たKS氏を空港で迎え、「冬のソナタロケ地巡り」のツアーも同行することにした。

2003年と言うと、私が韓国で職を得て住むようになった最初の年で、もう10年が経ったわけだ。

さて、この日、私は政府庁舎前11:15の仁川行きバスで仁川空港へKSを迎えに行った。

空港には午後2時過ぎに到着した。KSの乗った富山発のアシアナ機は13:58に着陸し、彼はきっかり14:30に待ち合わせロビーへ現れた。

空港の銀行窓口で7万円をウォンに交換。換算率は10.03だった。

彼はヘビースモーカーなのでバス停に着くや否や喫煙所へ入って喫煙した。

仁川空港から東大門市場行きのバスは15:15発で料金は1万4000ウォンと乗り換えがない分便利だが、ずいぶん高くついた。

ソウル市内の交通渋滞でほぼ1時間かかって東大門市場運動場へ到着した。

静岡の友人に紹介してもらい、ネットで予約した「ウルジロコープレジデンス」は空港リムジンバス停の真ん前だった。

1泊10万ウォンの部屋は思ったより広く、机やテレビは思ったより大きかった。

何よりもネット接続できるのはいい。我々は荷物を置いてすぐに東大門市場の裏通りの食堂街へ出かけた。

店はどこも禁煙だが、1カ所、ビニールで覆われたポチャンマチャ(直訳「ホロ馬車」)風の焼肉店があり、ここなら喫煙が大丈夫ではないかと聞いて見た。

この店の名前のコルモクチプ(골복집)とは「裏通りの店」という意味だが、SBS推薦の牛肉専門店だという。従業員は、「タンベ、ケンチャナヨ(タバコだいじょうぶ)」と言ってくれたが、灰皿がない。

灰皿(チェトリ)は？と聞くと「チェトリ、オプソヨ(灰皿は無いよ)」と言うので、「え、それじゃあ、吸い殻はどうすればいいの」と聞くと、吸い殻はテーブルの下に捨ててくれと言うのには驚いた。

焼肉セット4万7000ウォンを注文し、ビールは1本4000ウォンの「カス」を6，7本飲んだ。

KSは追加注文は要らないと言うのを私が払うからと言って1万9000ウォンのユッケを注文したが、食べきれなかった。

また、私は途中で焼酎に切り替えたが、その後の記憶がプッツンと切れてしまい、こちらも悪い選択だった。

しかし後で支払いをみると8万ウォンなので、本当に良心的な店だった。

記憶が飛ぶほど飲んだのは実に久しぶりだが、それだけ気持ち良く飲んで話ができたということだろう。
