131028 Daejeon Expo Park(大田エクスポ公園대전 엑스포 공원)

Date: Oct. 28 (Mon), 2013

Course (Escort): Daedeok University – Daejeon Expo Park – Government Complex Bus Terminal.

Partner (Guest): KS (NTT College Classmate) from Toyama, Japan

It was the last sightseeing day for KS’ 4 night-4 day sightseeing trip.

(4 nights: 1 in Dongdaemun, 2 in Yuseong, 1 in Incheon)

I had classes at Daedeok University that day. So, he spent half a day around his hotel in Yuseong.

From his hotel in Yuseong to Daedeok University, where I was working, he took a taxi.

When I was teaching a class, he came to the back door of my class room at around noon.

I rounded up my class, and went out of my classroom, then I could not see him in the hallway.

I looked for him around the 5th floor, and then the 4th floor, but could not find him.

When I came out of the building, he was at the smoking space, enjoying his cigarette!

Well, we walked down from the hill to the main building of the university to have lunch at the cafeteria.

It was his wish to visit the cafeteria to have lunch. There were two dishes available that day; 1) minced meat cutlet with curry and 2) fried rice. We had 2) fried rice, each cost 3500 won.

After having lunch, we took #604 bus which went to Daejeon Expo Park.

We missed the right bus stop, so we had to walk for about 1 km from the next stop to the park.

Although he was carrying a heavy bag, he did not mind at all.

When we arrived at the park, the information center where I was intended to leave our bags, had been shut down, and we had to walk with bags on our back.

To my surprise, he did not complain about it at all. “He is a good walker,” I thought.

When we came to the entrance of the park, we found out that all Expo Pavilions were closed, because it was Sunday!

The gatekeeper at the entrance told us, we could go in for free. So, we could go into the Expo Park for free.

It was OK for us, not to go into each pavilion, because the park was big and there were too many pavilions to see individually.

We could have sightseeing of the park, seeing beautiful flowers and big buildings, and interesting statues, human being and even insects.

We walked around for about one hour in the park. Although KS was carrying a heavy bag, he did not complain about it at all.

He did need to stop from time to time for smoking, but I admire his power of walking with heavy bag on his back.

After having “free” sightseeing at the park, we walked another one km or more to walk two more bus stops to the bus terminal called “Government Complex” from where airport limousine buses leave.

He bought a 4:14 ticket to Incheon, then we went to a nearby restaurant where they serve CASS beer and “Sundae.”

”Sundae" is a Korean dish made generally by boiling or steaming cow or pig's intestines that are stuffed with various ingredients.

It is a kind of blood sausage and believed to have been eaten for a long time. The recipes related to sundae can be found in Joseon cookbooks published in 19th century such as "Gyuhap chongseo" and "Siuijeonseo".

They served not only “Sundae” but also soup and side dishes such as “kimchi.”

When it was 15 minutes before the bus departure, we went back to the bus stop.

While waiting the bus, we immersed yourself in chatting, and almost forgot about the departure time.

I found that all passengers but KS were on board, and the driver was closing the door, I stopped the driver, and KS rushed into the bus.

He was the last passenger to get on board, but managed to got in time.

When he arrived at Incheon Airport, he sent me an e-mail, that he arrived at the airport in once piece.

He already reserved a private room at the airport Jjimjilbang for that night.

His plane to Toyama from Incheon, left 9 am next moring. He reported with a photo of the airplane next morning. It was raining in Incheon, although it was fine in Daejeon.

[At "24 Hour Sundae"

[The Airport Bus for Incheon,
