My wife and I visit Australia ever since our son got married in 1999.

But since 2010, we are expanding the locations we visit. I went to Tasmania in 2010. Then I went to Ululu in Northern Territory in 2011.

This year, we visit Perth to see our friend, Tracey, since she returned to Australia from Korea this spring.
We left Narita on June 30 to Sydney first. We went through the custom inspection there. Then we took another plane to go to Perth.
We felt the vastness of the country. It took 5 hours from Sydney to Perth.
I found that Sydney time was one hour ahead than Japan time and Perth time was one hour late than Japan time.
It means there is the same time zone as Japan in the middle of Australia. (Australia has 3 different time zones, the same as Japan, plus one zone and minus one zone.)
We left 10:10 in Sydney and arrived at Perth at 13:20.
I enjoyed three movies on board; “A Good Day to Die Hard”, “The Guilt Trip” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Among three, I enjoyed the last one best, although I could not finish the film when we arrived at Perth, and had to wait until the flight to go back to Sydney.

When we were picking up our luggage, Tracey came to see us.
She borrowed a big car from one of her brothers (she said he had 3 cars.) It was a big car and plenty of space for our luggage.
We went to the information desk first. The lady at the desk gave us several maps, then we hit the road at around 3 pm.

We had about 30 minute rest by the river, then we continued the drive.

We arrived at the office of Taunton Farm at 6:20 pm. It was already dark. After having check-in, we opened our cabin, put our luggage there, then went to a nearby town for dinner.

We had a little party at the cabin. It looks like a condominium style cabin. We had a clean kitchen, refrigerator, 4 single beds and one double bed and a bath with shower facility.

Kikko and I had Australian beer while Tracey had an interesting alcohol beverage. The container looked like a whisky, but the content looked like a cocoa, and tasted rather sweet.
When we looked up the sky, it was full of stars including the Milky Sky. Since it was in the middle of farm, less electric lights than Sydney. Naturally the constellations were different from what we saw in North Hemisphere.

長男が1999年にシドニーで結婚し、家庭をもって以来、毎年オーストラリアを訪問している。
オーストラリアは毎年訪問するが、同国は広大なため、息子の家があるシドニー以外はあまり訪れなかった。
しかし2010年にはタスマニアを訪問。2011年にはノーザンテリトリーのウルル(エアーズロック)、そして昨年はヴィクトリア州州都のメルボルンを訪ずれ、グレート・オーシャン・ロードをドライブした。

トレイシー用の韓国海苔や肇宅用のチョコレートを申告ありにチェックして渡したわけだが、すると荷物を開けることもせずに通った。もっとも、開封した海苔は自主的に廃棄した。
シドニーは日本時間プラス１、パースはマイナス１というのは面白い。オーストラリア大陸の中部は日本とまったく同一というわけだ。
そういえば、一昨年、ウルル(エアーズロック)ではプラスマイナス30分だったっけ。シドニー発は10:10でパース着は13:20だが、時差が2時間だから実質的には5時間のフライトだ。
成田→シドニーではA Good Day to Die Hardなど3本の映画を観た。3本とも自分としては楽しんだが、3本目 (Silver Linings Playbook)がアカデミー主演女優賞作品だった。これは最後まで見ることができず、翌々日の7月3日のシドニーへ向かう便の中で観終わった。

確かに、主人公の男も女も、一見、切れやすいストーカーだったり、やけくその好色女だったりするが、すばらしい宝石をうちに秘めている作品だったことを証明して終わるハッピーエンドは気持ち良い。
(3本ともハッピーエンドではある。)ヘミングウェイの「武器よさらば」は原書で読んでみたい気にさせる。原書と言えばこの本も原書がある。
パースの空港では荷物のピックアップの場所にトレイシーが来てくれた。車は弟から借りたと言うかなり大きな車で、後ろ1/3が荷物をおけるような形態だ。

事務所でキャビンの鍵をもらって荷物をキャビンに置いてから、町のレストランへ買い出しと夕食に出かけた。

ワインはグラスで注文し18ドル追加だ。我々が料理を待っている間にトレイシーがビールを含む買い物をすませ、彼女が戻ったところで乾杯。

食事とアルコールの不足分はキャビンで補った。トレイシーが購入したウィスキーの瓶に入ったチョコレート色の飲み物は甘いアルコールで喜久子と私にはちょっとおいしいとはおもえない。

我々はビール2本でけっこう盛り上がった。喜久子と私はダブルベッド、トレイシーはトイレの隣のシングルベッドで寝たがこれはトレイシーが場所の選択を誤った。
彼女は我々がトイレを使うたびに起こされたようで、2泊目はトイレの入り口から離れたベットで寝た。
外は満点の星。シドニーより周囲が暗いせいか、星の数も多く、天の川もくっきりと見えた。
