This is the 2nd letter from a Japanese Christian named Ms. Chiba who wrote three letters in Japanese to Mr. & Mrs. Walter decades ago.
The original letters were written in Japanese, and George tried to translate them in English.

I used to think this way; It was my duty to do my best after praying to God.
But Lord taught me the better way than this. He made me realize that my efforts may prevent His work.
At the same time, if I prayed and be certain that I believed in Him, I should calmly wait for His answer with praising mind and I should do only what God told me to do.
But it seems uneasy to be waiting, without doing anything, but only believing in Him. There was a strong temptation to do by myself, and to win by my own efforts.
While we are trying to battle against any difficulties by ourselves, it is impossible for our Lord to fight against them. It is not that our Lord does not help us, but He cannot help us. Our interference prevent our Lord to work. While earthly power was working, spiritual power could not work.
It needs time for God to answer to our prayers. We often fails to give time to God.
It takes time to make bread from fields of wheat. God makes soil of the field soft. God blesses the field and makes sprouts come from seeds, gives them stems and leaves and finally prepares golden brown grains. He gives bread to those who sow seeds. All we have to do is to break up soils, to sow the seeds and believe in God. Thus the purpose of God will be done.
As for time, it is necessary for us to give chances to God. It is also necessary for us to learn the same thing in our prayer life. God answers to our prayers, taking time. All of us need to go through the tunnel of hardship before traveling the street of victory.
“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today."
(Exodus 14:13) This is the order of God to the believers who are in great straits and are suffering from unspeakable hardship.
What shall the person do now. The word of Lord is “To stop or stand still!” For such cases, the best thing is to concentrate on words of Lord.
The bitter thoughts may whisper to you “give up the whole hopes,” but God says “Be brave, be glad with God’s Love and His honesty!” God’s order is that you go ahead from power to power.
Although He ordered you to be still temporarily, it would be to renew your power and to make you proceed greatly later.
But hastiness shouts “Do something, Do your best, to wait means only your laziness.”
We tend to think, we shoud do something immediately, when we look up our Lord.
But when things were uncertain, then we should wait. When we have doubt about the situation, then believe in God, and wait. We should not force our self to act.
If you feel constraint in your spirit, then wait until everything is revealed. Never resist against such constraint. “being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” (Romans 4:21)
Abraham was not disappointed. That was because he looked up the Almighty, rather than himself. God has limitless source of abundance.
We seek or require, but our prayers are too small. Our expectations are too limited. The only scale of God’s grace is “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”(Ephesians 3:20)
“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.”
(Psalm 33:11)
We need to wait for the time of God. God comes at the certain time He has decided. It is not our business to know about it. We only have to wait.
If Abraham was told that he had to wait for three years until he held his promised son, he must had been disappointed.
Graceful God concealed the long years from him because He loved him. He revealed the fact only when it became one year. “Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”(Genesis 18:14) The time came to Abraham at last.
Those who are tired to wait, be strong. You are waiting for God who never disappoint you. Soon your grief will turn to be delight. Keep your eyes on God, and keep looking up Jesus Christ.
Our duty is to go in front of God and to have close relationship. As it is written in Psalm 91:1 “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” we are completely protected by the shelter of God.
As long as you adjust yourself to God’s channel, He will show you the greatness of Himself. Leave sovereign power to God, and be victorious with Lord in your everyday life.
Whatever happens to us is God’s will and they make us self-searching, inspires and significant leap forward. Thus we always thank God for them.
Although we feel sad for temporarily, at the end, we always thank for God.
“then I can answer anyone who taunts me, for I trust in your word.” (Psalm 119:42)
Depending upon how much we believe that God carries though what he promised, our faith may be threatened or weakened.
Faith does not depend upon emotion, impression or condition surrounding us. If we relate our faith to these things, we are no more secured on the words of God. Because faith is nothing to do with these things.
Faith is being secured on words of God. When we hold God with His words, we had peace at our hearts.
God will be pleased if our faith is trained. First, it is for our souls. On the other hand, it is for church to be blessed. Trailas are the food of faith. May we leave ourselves in the hand of God.
God hopes to do good things to His children. But trails and hardship are not the only way to increase and to train faith. Reading Bible is the way to become close to God for us. Because God reveals Himself to us through Bible.
As the result of becoming close to God, you should be witness that God is full of love, compassion and kindness to His children.
When we reach to this status in the deep of our hearts, we will be satisfied with how God has been treating us, although things would not turn out as you expected. “ By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8)
“After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone.”(Matthew 14:23)
Jesus Christ as a man, he needed to be alone, completely alone, all by himself.
When we have relationships with other people, we tend to make us apart from ourselves. Jesus knew about this so he thought it was necessary for him to be alone. He knew the weakness as a man, and he knew the necessity to rely perfectly on his heavenly father.
Thus we even so, need to be alone. God wishes us to all Christian know about happy techniques and exercise them. He hopes that every believer has this sacred time to be alone with God.
Seek your own room. It is only in isolation you can find concealed meaning. Be practice to be only with Jesus Christ. Be practice to keep quiet in your heart.
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, (Ephesians 2:4-6)
The right places where we should be; but those who experience these places are very few. Only a few people may think it is possible to stay at “Heavenly Place” every day.
Quiet souls have limitless worth. Our success depend on this spiritual power “being quiet.”
In stead of struggling, just sitting in front of God quietly. If only you let yourself being floated by the Power of God Spirit, you can be certain that the Poer of God Spirit will work on you.
In all cases, it is you to learn that you are in peace and safe in God.

CL-2 主に信頼せよ、主が成し遂げて下さる(詩篇37:5)
私はかつて祈った後でその答えが来るまでに自分でできるだけのことをするのが自分の義務だと考えていた。
しかし主はさらに勝る道を私に教え給うた。それは自分の努力がいつも神の働きを妨げているということであった。
また、祈ってそのことのために神を確かに信じた場合には賛美の心をもって答えを待ち、ただ神が成せと命じ給うたことだけをなすべきだと悟った。
ただ、座して何事もせずに主に信頼していることは極めて不安なように見える。そして自分自身の手で戦い取ろうとする誘惑は恐ろしいことである。
私たちが自分で戦おうと試みる間は、主が私たちのために戦い給うことは不可能である。主が私たちを助けないというのではなく、助けることができないのである。私たちの干渉は主のわざを妨げるのである。世的な力が働いている間は霊の力は働かない。
神が祈りに応え給うには時が必要である。私たちは神に時を与えることに時々失敗する。
麦畑からパンを造るには時がかかる。神は土を取ってこれをこまかにする。これを和らげる。また、豊かになり給う神は葉を与え茎を与えまた琥珀色の粒を備えそしてついに植えている者にパンを供え給う。これらの事はみな時を要する。だから私たちは種を蒔き畑を耕し信じて待っている。これで神の目的は成就する。
私たちは時間については神に機会を与えることが必要である。私たちの祈りの生涯においても同じ学課を学ばねばならぬ。神は時をかけて祈りに応え給う。全ての人は勝利の大路を旅する前に艱難のトンネルをくぐらねばならぬ。
「恐れてはいけない。しっかり立って今日あなた方のために行われる主の救いを見なさい。」(出エジプト14:13)これは大きな窮境に陥り名状しがたい困難に遭っている信者に対する神の命令を含むものである。
今や彼は何をなすべきであろうか。主の彼に対する言葉は「立ち止まれ」である。このような場合には主の言葉にのみ耳を傾けるのが一番良いことである。失望は「すべてをあきらめよ」とささやくけれども神は「勇敢なれ、最悪の時にも神の愛と誠実を喜べ」と言い給う。神の命令はあなたが力から力へと進むことである。
たとえあなたがしばらく立ち止まるように命じられたとしてもこれはあなたの力を新たにし、他日さらに大きな進歩を与えられるためである。
性急さは「何かをなせ、自ら励め、待つことは全く怠惰にすぎない」と叫ぶ。
私たちは主を見上げるあまりにすぐ何かをしなければならぬと考える。
不確定の時には待ちなさい。もし何か疑いがあったなら信じて待ちなさい。自ら強いて行動してはならぬ。
もしあなたの霊に制約を感じるならばすべてが明らかにされるまで待ちなさい。決してそれに反抗してはならない。「神は約束されたことを成就する力があると固く信じました。」(ローマ4:21)
アブラハムは落胆しなかった。それは彼が自分自身よりもむしろ全能者を眺めたからであった。神は無限の富源を持ち給う。
私たちの求め、私たちの祈りはあまりに小さい。私たちの期待はあまりに制限されている。私たちに与えられた神の恵みの唯一の秤は「私たちのうちに働く力によって」ということである。(エペソ3:20)
「主のはかりごとはとこしえに立ち御心の計画は世々に至る」(詩篇33:11)
私たちには神の時を待つ用意が必要である。神は定まった時においでになる。それを知るのは私たちの分ではない。私たちはこれを待たねばならない。
もしアブラハムがハランで約束された子を自分の胸に抱くまで三年待たねばならぬと聞いたならばまったく失望したに違いない。
だから恵み深い神の愛によって長い年月が隠されていた。そしてほとんどこの年月があと数か月という時になって「主に不可能なことがあろうか。わたしは来年の今頃あなたの所に戻ってくる。そのときサラには男の子ができている。」(創世記18:14)という神の言葉を受けた定められた時はついに来た。
待ちあぐんでいる者よ、強くあれ。あなたはあなたを失望させない神を待っているのである。まもなくあなたの悲しみは歓喜に変わる。神様に目を留め続けること、何よりイエス様を見上げましょう。
私たちの義務は神様の前に出て神さまと親密な関係を持つことです。詩篇91:1にあるように神の臨在の中では私たち完全に守られているのです。
神さまにチャンネルを合わせている限り神さまは御自身の素晴らしさ見せて下さいます。神に主権を委ねるのです。そして毎日の生活の中で主と共に勝利するのです。
何であれ私の身に起こることはひとえに私を愛して下さる主の御心に通じており、反省と奮起と飛躍をうながすものであることを信じていつも感謝できますように。たとえ一時は額を曇らすことがあっても最後は必ずや感謝の声を上げる者でありますように。
「私はあなたの言葉に信頼していますから」(詩篇119:42B)私たちが、神が言われたとおりに成し遂げて下さることを信ずる割合に応じて、私たちの信仰は強くもなり弱くもなる。
信仰は感情、印象、外部の事情によるものではない。もし私たちがこれらの事情と結びつけるならば私たちはもはや神の言葉の上に安心しているのではない。なぜなら信仰はこれらのものと関係がないからです。
信仰は神の言葉そのものの上に安んじるものである。私たちが神の御言葉によって神を捕える時、心は平和になる。
神は信仰を練磨することを喜び給う。これは第一に私たちの魂のため、また大きくしては教会の祝福のためである。試練は信仰の糧である。私たち自らを天の父の御手に委ねんことを。
神はその子らのために善いことをしようと望み給う。しかし試みや困難ばかりが、それによって信仰が練磨されまた増大する方法ではない。御言葉を読むことはこれによって私たちが神と親しくなる道である。神は御言葉によってご自身を私たちに示し給うからである。
あなた方は神と親しくなった結果として神は愛に満ちたお方である。いかに恵み深く神はその子供たちに対して善をなし給うことか神の柔和と親切とを喜ぶ証人となることができるか。
私たちが魂の奥底においてこの状態に達すれば達するほど神の御手に私たち自身を委ね私たちに対する神の取り扱いに心から満足するようになる。何事もあなたがたの期待通りにはならない。「彼は約束の言葉よりも神を信じた。」(ヘブル11:8参照)
「群衆を帰したあとで祈るために一人で山に登られた。夕方になったがまだそこに一人でおられた。」(マタイ14:23)人なるイエス・キリストは完全な孤独を感じることを必要とされた。御自身はただ一人、まったくただ一人になる事を要された。
人と多く交わりを持つことがいかに私たちを私たち自身から引き離してしまうことか。イエス・キリストはこのことを知り、自分一人でいることを必要と思われた。人間的な弱さと、全面的に天の父に信頼しなければならないことを知っておられた。
まして私たちにはこのことが必要である。神はすべてのクリスチャンがこの幸いな技術を了解し、実行することを願っておられる。すべての信者が真実ただひとり神と共にある清い時を持つべきことを願っておられる。
あなたのひそかな一室を求めなさい。隠れた意義を捉えるのは孤独の中においてである。あなたの魂がただ一人、キリストと共にあることを練習しなさい。あなた自身の心の静けさを保つことを練習しなさい。
(エペソ2:4-6)
私たちの居るべき正当な場所、しかしこれを実際の経験としている人は実に少ない。毎日の生活において「天上の座」に座り続けることが可能だと考える人はまれである。
静かな魂は無限の価値を持っている。すべてのことにおいて私たちの成功は結局この霊的力に依存する「静かにある。」
苦闘する代わりに主の御前に静かに座す。神の霊の力にもしあなたがその力の流れによって流されていくだけ十分静かにその霊を御していきさえするならばそれがあなたのために働くことを確信することができる。
あらゆる場合、神の中に平安で、また、安全にあることを学ぶのはあなたの仕事である。
