131213 IDP (International Dinner Party) at Hanpit Apartment

Event: The last IDP meeting of 2013.

Place: Hanpit Apartment 128-101

Participants: Grace & Barnabas (Korea), Marian (Iran), Jim (Australia), BJ (Korea) & Marta (Ukraine) with Hanna, Inge (Norway), William (France), Philip (Czech), Amin & Nelpher (Iran), Yeji (Korea), George (Japan) [7 countries, 14 people]

Main dish was curry and rice (Korean style). Grace also cooked “Pajeon” or Korean pizza. She also put some sweet cakes as well as kimchi on the table.

I told BJ and Marta about the meeting so it was a pleasant surprise to Grace and Barnabas to see them with Hanna.

Actually, I met BJ and Marta for the first time at this meeting in 2009. Ever since, they became regular members of Stammtsich and we have been good friends since then.

Jim and Yeji are great musicians. Jim played a piece of music he composed by himself. He also sang “Imagine” and Yeji played the flute along his song.

Yeji also played the music key-board and we all sang Arilang and Silent Night. As for Silent Night, she (or Grace) prepared English and Korean versions. Yeji led everyone sing with her key-board.

We had Self-Introduction Time again. Ingo from Norway said he traveled Japan before coming to Korea in April. He went Tokyo, Osaka, Toyama and Hiroshima, using “Japan Pass” for three weeks. How nice!

He did his introduction while handstanding! Amazing! He also showed his belly and vibrated his belly, he called his belly “flexible belly.”

William from France introduced himself, saying his hobby is trail-marathon. Wow, what a sport man!

Marian also said her hobby is mountain climbing. So I should invite her to AhToSan in February.

Amin said he was 30 years old, and working at Chunnam University Hospital as a cancer researcher.

His wife, Nelpher is a lawyer in Iran, but she came to Korea to join her husband.

Philip from Czech said he was taking Ph.D course on mechanical engineering, just like Marian from Iran.

The party was over at a little before 9 pm, and it would be the last IDP meeting this year.

今回のメニューは韓国式のカレーライスがメインで、あとはパジョンとアンマンなどである。

BJとマルタはIDPに2009年にIDPに参加したことがあり、実際、私が彼らと知り合ったのはIDPである。当時は新婚で、ハンナはその1年後に生まれたのである。

今回もジムのウクレレとイェジのフルートが活躍した。ジムはウクレレを弾きながら自分が作曲した曲や、ジョンレノンの「イマージン」を歌い、イェジはフルートでメロディーを吹いたりハモったりした。この二人の音楽の才能はすばらしい。

みんなで歌う歌はアリランの他、「聖しこの夜」の英語及び韓国語バージョンである。韓国人以外は韓国語バージョンは初めてのようで、イェジがキーボードを弾きながら歌唱指導をした。

今回は特に自己紹介のほかに指定されたお題はなかった。

最初に自己紹介したノルウェー人のインゲは4月に日本を3週間、ジャパンパスを利用して東京、富山、大阪、広島を旅行した後、韓国へ来たと言う。

彼はなんと逆立ちしながら自己紹介をした。また、もう一つかくし芸があると言って、お腹を出すと、お腹をぶるぶるとふるわせて見せた。

フランス人のウィリアムは山岳マラソンが趣味だと言う。

イラン人のアミンは30歳で、忠南大学病院でガンの研究をしている。奥さんのネルファーは弁護士だが、夫と一緒に住むためにイランの仕事を整理して韓国へきたという。

この日はイラン人が留学生のマリアンを含め3人と国別ではいちばん多かったが、イランは思われているほど宗教的な傾向が強いわけではなく、若い世代の90%はアラブ嫌いだと言う。

なお、マリアンは前回に続いて2度目の参加だが、彼女の趣味は登山だという。それなら今度アトサンに誘おうと思った。

今回も前回に続いて9時少し前にお開きになった。次回は来年の2月の予定である。
