Destination (mountain): PalBongSan (302m) in Hongchon, Gangwondo
Hiking course: Ticket Gate – No. 1 Peak to No. ３ Peak Hesan Cave – #8 Peak – Hongchon River – Parking Lot
Partner: About 30 [3 foreingers: Liz (USA), Ash (UK)and myself]
It was a fine day. Liz, Bernardo’s Spanish speaking friend, and her English friend, Ash joined us. The name of the mountain is “PalBongSan” which means a mountain with 8 peaks. It locates in Hongchon, Gangwondo.
It took 3 hours and half from Daejeon. Therefore it was 10:30 when we arrived at the parking lot of PalBongSan.
[A group picture before the hike, 駐車場にて集合写真、주차장에서 단체사진]There was a river called “Hongchon” between the parking lot and the mountain. We walked over the bridge and began hiking, soon.
[With Liz and Ash in front of PalBongSan, 八峰山の前で、팔봉산 앞에서]There was a big (as tall as a human being) wooden sculpture of “man’s symbol” at the entrance of the trail. Korean people seem to like this kind of sculptures because I have seen them often.
[At the entrance of the trail, 登山口にて、등산로 입구에서]The hiking course was not long, but full of variety. It’s like a curve of “stock market” and indeed there were 8 peaks each peak with a stone mark.

[We had to use the rope to climb the cliff, 崖をロープを使って登る、벼랑을 로프를 사용해서 올랐다]
We arrived at the first peak at 11:15, then the 2nd one at 11:33. There were two small shrines on the 2nd peak and there were a dozen of middle school students. They liked Liz and Ash and greeted in English. They all have similar hairstyle; like girl’s short hair. They were exited to be taken pictures with “foreigners.”
[Liz and Ash with junior high school boys,リズとアッシュと中学生たち、리즈와 애쉬와 중학생들]The 2nd peak is the highest among eight peaks. We had lunch at a spacious area between the 2nd and 3rd peak.

[After lunch, in front of the stairs of the 3rd Peak, 三峰の階段の前で、삼봉의 계단 앞에서 ]After lunch we came to the highlight of the hike: to go through a narrow whole. From the 3rd peak, we came down by stairs. Then we had to climb a steep cliff. Just before the 4th peak, there was a rocky hole called “Haesangul.” “Haesan” means “giving birth” or “delivery” and “gul” means cave. We had to take off our bag and hand it over to antecessor and using both hands and legs, we struggled to go through this hole.

[At the top of the 4th Peak, 四峰頂上にて、사봉정상에서]After climbing all eight peaks, we came down to the river side. Then we went into the river to walk across to the parking lot.

[A trail along the river, 川辺の登山路、강가의 등산로 ]If we walked all the way to the bridge, then we could go back to the parking lot without entering the river. But Liz went into the river and Ash followed suit. Therefore, I followed suit, too.
[Ash follow suit to Liz in the river, リズに続いて川に入ったアッシュ、리즈에 이어 강에 들어간 애쉬]The water was not too cold, but the river bed was slippery with moss. So, I walked slowly and carefully.
Some AhToSan people jumped into the river. Some of them put their arms on their shoulders and made “waves” in the river! It looked fun.

We had “wrap-up” party as usual at the parking lot and came back to Daejeon relatively early.

It was my 47th hike for this year and my 249th AhToSan regular hike.

登山地：江原道・洪川の「八峰山(팔봉산302m)」
登山コース：八峰山キップ売場～1峰～2峰(頂上)～3峰～ヘサンクル해산굴(地獄の穴くぐり)～4峰～5、6、7峰～8峰～洪川わたり～駐車場(約4時間)
同行者：約30名(外国人はリズ(米)とアッシュ(英)と私の3人)
ようやく良い天気の山行。リズがイギリス人のアッシュを連れてタクシーで南門へ。参加者は約30人。登山地は江原道、洪川の八峰山。
現地到着まで3時間半かかり、駐車場に着いたのは10時半だった。
[A group picture before the hike, 駐車場にて集合写真、주차장에서 단체사진]八峰山は文字通り第1峰から第8峰まで峰々がアップダウンで続いており、駐車場からは洪川をはさんで対岸になっている。
1峰への入り口には巨大な木彫りの男性のシンボル。この種の彫刻は韓国でよく目にする。
リズがトイレに時間がかかり、我々が最後尾で、チョムワがウォーキートーキーを持ってついてくれた。
第1峰の途中で早速1回目の休憩。今回はブドウとミニトマトのほか、栗マッコリも持参したので、早速みんなに振る舞った。

[At the top of First Peak, 一峰頂上にて、일봉정상에서]このあとただちにロープを使った岩登りになり、かなり大変だ。第一峰の頂上には11:15頃。最高峰の第二峰には11:33に到達した。
頂上付近には祠が２つあり、そのうちの１つには「八峰山后神霊」と「七星七君」という札が見えた。

この付近では中高生の卓球部の連中いたがリズとアシュが珍しいらしく彼らは人気の的となった。彼らは男の子なのにみなおかっぱとはおもしろい。
二峰を過ぎたところでやや広い場所があり、12時前だったが、そこで昼飯にした。私のトッチャリはリズやアッシュらが使い、役に立った。
[Lunch between 2nd and 3rd Peaks,二峰と三峰の中間で昼食、이봉과 삼봉의 중간에서 점심] その後、残りの第3峰から第８峰をおもにリズとアッシュとともに進んだ。
[After lunch, in front of the stairs of the 3rd Peak, 三峰の階段の前で、삼봉의 계단 앞에서 ]ハイライトは第３峰から第４峰の間にある狭い穴：ヘサンクル(해산굴解産窟)で、ここはだれでもリュックを降ろして先に出し、あとは両手と両足を使って仰向けになって這い出なければならない。まるで母親の胎内から赤ん坊がでるようだ(ヘサンクルの由来)。

[At the top of the 4th Peak, 四峰頂上にて、사봉정상에서]このあと、第５峰、第６峰、第７峰と上り下りして第８峰に到達。そこを下ると洪川のほとりに出た。

[A trail along the river, 川辺の登山路、강가의 등산로 ]鉄製の遊歩道を過ぎると、川辺から対岸まで、約30メートルほどの川を渡らなければならない。当初、遠回りして朝渡った橋を渡ろうかと思ったが、リズが渡りはじめたのをみて、私もわたることにした。
[Liz in Hongchon River, リズも洪川に入る、리즈도 홍천에 들어갔다.] 川の水温は高く、流れは緩く、水の深さは股のへんまで。ただし、川底の石がぬるぬるして滑りやすい。滑っては大変なので慎重に渡った。
[I followed suit to Liz,私もリズに続いて川に入った。나도 리즈를 따라 강에 들어갔다.]
渡り切ったアトサンの会員７、８人が肩を組んでウェーブをしているのは愉快だった。リズの準備がよいことに感心した。
あとは駐車場わきでいつものティップリ。南門には明るいうちに戻った。
